Live the life you've imagined!
Live the life you’ve imagined, making things happen in life is no mistake. We may often consider our dreams to be in the distant future and not something of the present times. Niamh Buffini says, “I have imagined as an athlete, I would have qualified for the Olympic games, yet never did. In a way now I believe I have made it to the games as a coach, in a different capacity, but that ambition never left, it just changed route. I am big believer in making your dreams happen every day because you work on it daily”.
Living the reality of your dreams and goals consolidates the daily environment that you put yourself in and the decisions you make. I have reflected on some areas of my environment that I believe have contributed to my journey.
See how Niamh lives out her journey to get to where she wants to be.
1.Opportunities in a new environment.
We can often miss out on small things that can become big opportunities. While separating what is not needed to seeing the potential in a situation shouldn’t be overlooked. I have often walked away from a scenario feeling like I should have done this or said that. Now in talking to somebody, taking a business card or having a coffee with a stranger it makes for a new perspective and realizing what you do in your life is right for you.
2. Adaptability.
Your environment in your head versus your surrounding environment is often misconstrued by many. What and how we think dictates our decision making. How we act in our environment must be dictated by our inner voice. When major decisions need to be made about ourselves or others this is when this type of thinking really makes a difference. Do you think when Elon Musk was deciding to send Falcon 9 to space it went smoothly? There were so many things you could not imagine went wrong, if he did not keep his internal environment in the correct state and adapt to his environment, he would have crumbled him. This approach helps us with the big and small things in life.
3. One step ahead.
In the performance world or in everyday life there is always someone one step ahead. Take control and be one step ahead in your world, after all that’s all that matters. ~true happiness comes from making progress, why stay still? If we stay still we fall behind this statement is so true now more than ever due to the intensity of the environment I find myself in at the Games.
4. Take nothing for granted.
The potential for things to go wrong weather its loosing a weight or winning an Olympic medal we must always keep the eye on the ball. Making gains in life is very rewarding and often can be a false sense of security for getting to ideal goal. The human brain creates ways of getting back to our comfort zone and quite often we give into this. We must stand guard and keep progressing, after all we are at our happiest when making progress.
5. Place value on your progress big or small.
Lets relish in making small amounts of progress whilst not getting carried away. We may treat small gains as passive gains however every gain is important. Loosing 1 pound of weight or adding 2kg to your deadlift is progress says Niamh”. Give reflection a go through diary entries or self talk, its a great way to place value on your progress. Add to this by looking forward with a plan with intent. The first man reaching the moon was an intent and started with a dream. Start with the dream and live everyday.
